Goodbye to the absolute record of points in Serie C, but ultimately this remains the only “bad” news that Cesena slipped into the charter that left Sunday evening from Alghero to Romagna. Having said that the leaders can still reach the record of the stratospheric Catanzaro of a year ago (96 points, a success against Perugia is needed in the home leave on Sunday evening), the leaders deservedly emerged from the beautiful big match at Vanni Sanna amidst applause of the commendable home fans, who recognized the superiority and strength of Toscano’s team.

Like a group ago, Torres tore a strut by leveraging its solidity and once again on the episodes, which (and totally) winked at the Sardinians and penalized Cavalluccio. Furthermore, like a group ago, Cesena stopped again after six consecutive victories, stopped by the 1-1 draw against the Sardinians.
Like a year ago, however, the decisive goal at Sanna was scored (but in the other goal) by Manolo Adamo: in the last championship he scored the winning goal from a free kick, this time he punctured Zaccagno’s goal with a perfect cut to the center and a very calibrated left foot into the corner. For the thirty-sixth time in 37 games the league leaders scored at least one goal and this time too they managed to do so despite the very heavy absence of Cristian Shpendi, who further shortened the rotations in attack. After two games of 2 goals and 2 assists, Corazza stopped in Sassari, but a winger’s goal was seen again: he was missing from Pierozzi’s promotional goal against Pescara, while Adamo hadn’t scored since Cesena-Gubbio, the match that had effectively closed the championship.
Natural leavening
The growth of Cesena’s number 17 has been rapid during the season. If in the first round Adamo had gained preference with his assists, today the Neapolitan winger has become decisive in scoring. At a certain point in the ascending group, Adamo was the best assist-man in all the Italian professional leagues, closing 2023 at 11. Curiously, in 2024 he did not sign any assists, not even from the flag, but he entered heavily into three scoreboards: a decisive goal against Neri di Rimini in the derby won 2-0 and unlocked by his header following a cross from Donnarumma; a three-point parable against Gubbio, in the most complicated match of the return leg; Sassari’s equalizing goal with a precise razor two days ago.
But also in the first round Adamo had scored two decisive goals: the equalizer in Gubbio (1-1) and the provisional 1-0 in Manuzzi’s defeat against Vis Pesaro (4-0). Adamo’s 5 goals, therefore, brought 8 points to Cesena’s coffers, an excellent haul for a winger who has literally seen his numbers rise compared to a year ago.
Last season the former Monterosi player ended the championship with 3 goals and 5 assists in 2,212 minutes, rather anonymous in the first round and then “explosive” in the return. Today, with one match left to go in the regular season, Adamo has been an unmovable starter on Cesena’s right wing for a year and has scored 5 goals and 11 assists in 2,687 minutes. All the items have improved, in parallel with a performance that has made him one of the cover men of the promotion to Serie B. A category that Adamo will taste for the first time at the end of August, in the best moment of his career.
