Brescia, child drowned in swimming pool: reshuffle of responsibility between lifeguards and parents

Brescia. On 19 July 2020, Ansh Sharma, almost 7 years old, drowned in the swimming pool in via Rodi in Brescia. His parents, of Pakistani origin, and two lifeguards are on trial for his drowning.
During the hearing on Monday 11 March, the prosecutor asked for six months for both parents and a lifeguard and 9 months for the second pool attendant.
The child, who would have turned seven the day after the accident, dived into the water, even though he did not know how to swim, where he remained, according to the outcome of the forensic medical report, “over a minute” before being rescued. His little lungs filled with water and he could not be saved.
The four defendants are all called to answer for manslaughter and failure to control.

In the hearing which took place on Monday in Brescia, as reported Bresciaoggithey have the defense spoke: as regards the two pool attendants, the lawyer Luca Broli underlined how, that day, there were 250 people present in the swimming pool facility and that four lifeguards were on duty. The older of the two reported that he had “repeatedly asked the company to increase the presence of lifeguards” and that that day there were no elements attributable to their inattention.
While the defense of the child’s parents stressed that the responsibility should instead be attributed to the lifeguards. The ruling is expected on May 20.
