Sunday 26 May from 10am to 7pm at Spazio 360 (ex Ferramola shop) in Galleria Bassa dei Magnani, Borgo Piccinini 1 Free entry, registration required Parma (2024) – Librokilo arrives in Parma, guest of the Off Circuit of the Parma 360 Festival, to save tons of books from the pulp mill.

On Sunday 26 May from 10am to 7pm it will be possible to buy second-hand books for only €10 per kg in Spazio 360 in the suggestive Galleria Bassa dei Magnani in Borgo Piccinini 1.

Readers and enthusiasts will be able to choose from non-fiction texts, fiction, art and photography catalogues, graphic novels and children’s books. Most of the volumes – explain the organizers – are used but in excellent condition, some are still new and all are carefully selected by the Ex Libris bookshop in Genoa.

Once you have made your choice, it will be possible to weigh the selected books on the Librokilo scale and thus take home a small treasure made up of unobtainable texts, great classics and hidden gems.

Librokilo was born from the need to make the publishing market more sustainable: the Italian Publishers Association (Aie) calculates that in Italy alone in 2023 almost 70 thousand new releases were published (excluding self-publishing), or around 200 books per day.

Around 70% of these books will end up being pulped within a few months for reasons that go beyond cultural value: a large waste of paper and an excess of transport which we want to help reduce given the impact that these consumption practices have on the environment.

Librokilo offers a second life to these books, hoping that they can meet new readers, perhaps among the youngest. A vision similar to that of Parma 360 Festival which aims to regenerate disused places thanks to the organization of exhibitions, events and meetings.

During the day it will in fact be possible to visit the collective exhibition Otto curated by Illustation and admire the illustrations of The Parmigianer.

It is also possible to bring your own books to be put back into circulation, as long as they are in excellent condition, so as to actively contribute to virtuous recycling. All the details on the website www.librokilo.it.

Entry is free and registration is required at the link: https://www.eventbrite.it/e/897029999877? aff=oddtdtcreator

The organizers ask those who participate to bring their own bag with them to help us reduce plastic and paper waste from disposable bags as much as possible.

Librokilo is a project by Materia Talk, a Milanese communications agency that founded it and promotes it throughout Italy.
