Minirugby, 500 young athletes at the ‘Macellari’ in Foligno for the MinifestOval — SportPerugia.it

At the 12th edition of the tournament, organized by ASD Foligno Rugby, 16 clubs from Central Italy – A wonderful day of sport and fun experienced by children and families


Great participation in Foligno, Sunday 21 April, for the twelfth edition of the ‘MinifestiOval’ minirugby tournament, organized by ASD Foligno Rugby. Around 500 young and very young athletes participated in the Under 8, 10, 12 categories, in addition to the Under 6s who took part in parallel activities in the ‘A’ sports facility. Sixteen sports clubs were present, Umbrian of course but also from Lazio, Marche and Tuscany, with Asd Rugby Velletri winning the Audace ‘Maurizio Santocchi’ trophy, being the one that had ‘grinded’ the most kilometers so as not to miss the an event that is organized every year in memory of Luigi Coraggi, pioneer of rugby in Umbria.

The competitions saw the following teams get on the podium: for the Under 8, on the first step Asd Amatori Tivoli Rugby, followed by Asd Rugby Valdarno and Valdelsa Rugby on equal merit and Spqr Gladiatori Rugby Asd; the Under 10 category awarded the young people of Rugby Valdarno, second Valdelsa Rugby together with Crete Senesi Rugby Asd and third Molòn Labé Rugby Club Asd; finally, for the Under 12s, Valdarno placed first, Valdelsa second together with Crete senesi and Città di Castello Rugby Asd Sparvieri/Centauri third.

Great satisfaction was expressed by Andrea Gubbini and Ezio Nori, respectively president and vice-president of Foligno Rugby for “the great participation of clubs from all over central Italy who are now a permanent presence at the tournament” and the “beautiful day of sport and fun experienced by children and families”, remembering the inevitable third half and thanking the sponsors who made this event possible, as well as the company secretary and tournament director, Giorgio Agnello, ‘deus ex machina’ of the MinifestOVal.
