The attack against a prison police officer at “Don Bosco” of Pisa drew attention to prison conditions. A theme at the center of the initiative, already planned, launched by Democratic party nationwide and titled “You Must Have Seen.”
“The situation of the structure sees, on the one hand, the female wing which has been renovated in recent times – said the Pisan senator of the dems, Ylenia Zscopio – on the other hand, however, as regards the men’s section we are still at a level of overcrowding and deterioration of unsustainable environments“.
“In an 8 square meter cell there are 3 prisoners with a single exposed bathroom – he concluded – resources for restructuring are the most urgent thing: Reintegration into society becomes more difficult if people live in degraded conditions while serving their sentences. Even those who work in the institute must deal daily with a context burdened by very low quality of environments, and I refer to the difficulties faced by the penitentiary police force, but also by the staff, educators, teachers and health workers”.
