Venice, 23 April 2024 – Un symbolic ‘passport’ distributed to tourists to enter Venice. It is the protest organized by the Circolo Arci Veneto against the entrance ticket to the lagoon city. The fake pass will be delivered instead of the ticket Thursday 25 Aprilstarting day of paid entry to Venice.
There are over 20 associations, including the Circoli Arci di Venezia, which express “strong criticism of this measure” initiated by the Municipality and which provides for a 29 day calendarstarting from April 25th, in which a contribution of 5 euros to tourists entering the ancient city. Residents and visitors who stay overnight in authorized city hotels and who already pay the tourist tax are exempt from payment.

“The measure in question – continues the president – further aggravates the phenomenon of gentrification”, i.e. the progressive socio-cultural change of the city fabric.
“Cities are becoming less and less habitable for residents and more and more oriented towards mass tourism. The ticket will not impose limits on tourist access to Venice, as a maximum number of visitors has not been established.”
