April 25th marks the 79th anniversary of the national liberation from Nazi-fascism, which took place on April 25th 1945. On this occasion, the Cudir, the Unitary Committee for the defense of the Republican Institutions of the Municipality of Pistoia, organized, in collaboration with numerous citizen associations, a calendar of events.
Here are the initiatives scheduled for Thursday 25 April.
At 11am in Piazza della Resistenza the ceremony will take place at the War Memorial with the laying of a wreath of flowers. The mayor of Pistoia, the prefect and the provincial councilor with responsibility for the school network will be present. This will be followed by a tribute from the ANPI to Silvano Fedi with the laying of flowers at the monumental burial in the municipal cemetery. At the end of the two events a concert by some bands is planned in Piazza del Duomo. In case of bad weather, the wreath will be placed privately and the commemoration will be held in the Sala Maggiore of the Town Hall.
The Anpi party, the National Association of Partisans of Italy, will be held at the Arci club in Bonelle. The initiatives will start at 9am with the forty-eighth Partisan Marathon, followed by the awards ceremony and the social lunch. At 4pm the Homage to Modesta Rossi initiative will take place in the square of the same name in Bonelle and then continue (5pm) towards Montechiaro, where, at Silvano Fedi’s memorial stone, the Pistoia partisan will be remembered.
At the Arci club in Porta al Borgo, the program of “Fischia anchor il vento” includes, starting from 12.30, a theatrical performance by the spontaneous group Hochi directed by Cecilia Lattari. At 1pm lunch in the street followed (4pm) by the free concert by the groups Emiliano & Janus Bros, Le Figliole and Lampredonto. At 8pm DJ set with the Hochi All Stars. The initiatives are organized by Circolo Ho Chi Minh, Anpi, Cudir, Arci Pistoia, Coop Members Section of Pistoia, Libera, Emergency, NUDM Pistoia (no less), Associazione L’Acqua Cheta and Insorgiamo GKN.
On Sunday 28 April in Piteccio the commemoration of the civilian victims of the bombing of 28 April 1944 will be held, organized in collaboration with the Piteccio recreational club, Pro Loco of Piteccio, Gruppo Alpini Alta Valle Ombrone Pistoiese section of Florence, Piteccio parish committee, Anpi section Poli Valoris, Croce Verde Piteccio and with the patronage of the Municipality of Pistoia and Cudir. At 11 am, the Holy Mass will be held in the church in memory of the civilian victims of the bombing, celebrated by the bishop of Pistoia Fausto Tardelli. This will be followed by the laying of wreaths at the country’s monuments with the reading of the names of the civilian victims. At 1pm a lunch will be held in the parish premises organized by the Alpini.
Traffic measures
To allow the ceremony to take place, on Thursday 25 April, from 9am until the end of the event scheduled for 12pm, a parking ban will be in force in Piazza della Resistenza (in the stretch of road near the intersection with Via Campo Marzio). with forced removal to allow the parking of the vehicles linked to the celebration.
Changes to traffic in via Dalmazia. To allow the initiative to take place in Porta al Borgo, some changes to traffic are planned on Thursday 25 April.
In via Dalmazia (from via Gora e Barbatole to via Porta Al Borgo/viale Petrocchi), from 9am to 11pm, a parking ban will be in force with forced removal and transit with mandatory detours into via dello Specchio for vehicles coming from via Dalmazia (north) and from Via Gora and Barbatole; furthermore there will be a mandatory detour to the left onto viale Policarpo Petrocchi for vehicles coming from via Porta al Borgo.
Inside the Porta Borgo car park (former fruit and vegetable market), in the north-west corner, near the entrance on the Porta al Borgo side, parking will be prohibited with forced removal on two parking stalls. Sanitary facilities will be placed in these spaces to serve the initiative.
There will be warning signs on site.
