The City of Trapani is preparing to welcome, from April 24th to 28th, the prestigious “Giuseppe Di Stefano” International Opera Competition, now in its 19th edition. Organized by the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trapani – Department of Culture, it aims to discover and promote young opera talents. The Sala Sodano of Palazzo d’Alì, in Trapani, will be the stage for the four intense days of selection, through the preliminary, semi-final and final tests, while the Gala Concert of the winners will take place on 28 April, at 9.00 pm, at the “M° Tonino Pardo” Theater, in Trapani.

This year, thirty-seven young opera singers from Andorra, China, South Korea, Costa Rica, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Giorgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Italy, will compete in front of the international jury made up of experts of the sector and chaired by the famous soprano Luciana Serra and formed by Micaela Carosi, Simone Di Crescenzo, Ugo Guagliardo, Lisa Navach, Sebastian Schwarz, Luigi Stillo, Maria Paola Viano and the artistic director Walter Roccaro. The roles of “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) will be put up for competition, which will be staged on 24 and 26 July at the “Giuseppe Di Stefano” Theater, as part of the 76th Season of the Luglio Musicale Trapanese.

The 2024 edition of the Competition also offers the prestigious special prizes “Special Mention Francesco Braschi – Kiwanis Club Trapani” and “Friends of Music of Alcamo”. “The large participation of candidates – sixteen more than the last edition – indicates the trust that young opera singers, looking towards high professional and career prospects, place in the “Giuseppe Di Stefano” Competition. I believe this also depends on the quality of the international jury chosen to guarantee competence and impartiality, as well as on the work put up for competition – “Die zauberflöte” by WA Mozart – which has always been one of the most fascinating and complex testing grounds for young voices. . Another aspect that I like to underline is the large range of nations represented: this testifies, once again, that Music unites peoples and is a bulwark of Peace and the Culture of Peace.” – thus declares Walter Roccaro, artistic director of the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese.

“The “Giuseppe Di Stefano” International Opera Competition represents a significant moment for the promotion of culture and opera in Trapani and beyond. After years of interruption, we strongly desired the return of this competition which celebrates opera, an art that knows no boundaries and which has the power to unite people through the beauty and emotion of music. We wish all participants a successful experience, trusting that this event can contribute to consolidating Trapani’s role as a center of cultural and artistic excellence.” These are the words of Giacomo Tranchida, mayor of the Municipality of Trapani and Rosalia d’Alì, councilor for Culture.

The press is invited to participate in the presentation press conference, which will be held on April 24, at 10.30 am, in the Sala Sodano of Palazzo d’Alì.
