“A motorbike hit us. Now I pray for my husband”

“That motorbike hit us while we were crossing the stripes. Now my husband is in a reserved prognosis with a head injury.” The story of the wife of Giancarlo D’Amen, a professor retired less than two years ago from the “Marconi” sports scientific high school and currently an athletic trainer for Fano Rugby, who on Saturday, around 4pm, was hit in Via Lungofoglia Caboto while he was returning home with his wife. “We were completing the pedestrian crossing on the stripes near Via Donzelli – says his wife Donatella Pierucci, also retired –. We were returning from a walk and from the river side we were heading towards the opposite side of the road: we were close to home. The motorbike driven by a not young gentleman was coming from the port roundabout heading towards the center. It hit us both and I was the first to collide with the motorbike, from the side. At first I thought it had only hit me. when I got up and saw my husband on the ground not moving, I realized that the worst blow had been received by him who was walking next to me. The motorbike came upon us and stopped: the motorcyclist said not to having seen us because he was distracted. I wonder how it was possible not to notice us. We were walking slowly, without running and there were two of us, therefore clearly visible.”

In the impact Donatella Pierucci suffered minor injuries, which can be healed in ten days. The police and 118 health workers intervened on site and transported both to the emergency room. Giancarlo’s condition immediately appeared critical to the point that, after being transported to the emergency room, the doctors transferred him to Torrette by air ambulance. “I remember those moments – says Donatella –: we were both in hospital for treatment and my husband was transferred to Ancona with a head injury. They tell me that his conditions are very delicate, he is on a guarded prognosis and is sedated. He is an athlete , he has a strong fiber: they gave us some hope that he can do it.” Even from Fano Rugby, where Giancarlo has been collaborating as an athletic trainer for some time after having also collaborated with Pesaro Rugby in the past, solidarity and hope are arriving for one of the cornerstones of Fano society.
