A triumph of colours, music and dance to celebrate World Earth Day. A moment of celebration whose protagonists were the little students of the School of‘Childhood “Pellogrino Park” of the Don Milani uno + Institute Maiorano of Manfredonia, together with the patients of the Alda Merini Psychosocial Rehabilitation Day Centre”.
The event was organized by the project “NEMO (Nature and Education for new participatory models): the educating community of Borgo Bambino”, selected by the Social Enterprise Con i Bambini as part of the Fund to combat child educational poverty and is part of in the activities of the National Health Authority, (project partner) which deals with the reintegration of people suffering from mental distress into the social and working fabric.
It was the children who held real lessons on environmental protection, who after having ignited the awareness in the community that only by starting with small daily gestures can we ensure a better future for the planet, they also cleaned and tidied up the green area of their school with the help of parents, grandparents, volunteers and special friends.
“With this day – explains Vittoria Del Grosso, Coordinator of the Day Center-Psychè Association – we have overturned the reading codes, with adults becoming students and children teaching to respect the environment and break down prejudice, restoring dignity to people with mental disorders. It is in this message of strong inclusiveness that the double value of this day is hidden”.
The Earth celebrations, sponsored by the Municipality of Manfredonia, continued in the afternoon with waste collection also in the green area of Piazza delle Mimose by volunteers supported by the technicians of the ASE (Ecological Services Company) of Manfredonia.
“Less waste but more sensitivity towards the environment and towards others. This is what NEMO is, adds Barbara Torraco, President of Patto Consulting, a social enterprise, leader of the project that looks at a school understood as a place of learning and action, but also as a community that works on relationships and emotions”.
