Salerno, theft and devastation: havoc at the “Focaccia”

The defibrillator in use at the technical institute “Focaccia” thrown down from the second floor, inside the courtyard of the school in via Monticelli. It is enough to underline just this gesture of extreme incivility to demonstrate the gravity of what happened between Saturday and Monday night in the main headquarters of the higher education institute in Fuorni where another raid by thieves occurred: six laptops, a 3D printer and a monitor were taken away which was at the entrance to the school complex. A loot that on the black market will be worth less than a thousand euros.

But what greatly affected an entire community were the actions of pure vandalism perpetrated within the institute. «It is not so much the value of the stolen equipment even if it is the result of many sacrifices to equip the school, but seeing the abandonment to violence against things, without any reason, only for the pleasure of the disfigurement itself which clearly animated those who committed it theft» underlines an emotional woman Maria Funaro, school director of “Focaccia”. «Seeing a life-saving device like the defibrillator vandalized and then destroyed after throwing it from the second floor into the courtyard hurts the heart and sense of civility of the entire community. In fact, it is not only education, culture and school that are offended, but precisely the civilization of this city. What’s the point of turning everything upside down in the secretariat, indulging in broken doors and other violence? We really will never understand».

The thieves, according to what was reconstructed by the police, entered through a window on the ground floor and even disabled the school’s video surveillance equipment. A school employee discovered the theft when it reopened yesterday morning: in fact, it was already noticeable from the outside the havoc committed and to enter it was necessary to climb over the entrance door as the electricity that powered it had been cut off. The agents of the Flying section of the Salerno police station and the scientific police arrived on site to carry out the findings and start the investigations.
