CAPRARICA DI LECCE – Preparations are underway for the 176th edition of the San Marco Fair, scheduled for Thursday 25 April in the «City of Oil». And «Once upon a time» is the slogan coined by the municipal administration, led by the mayor Paolo Greco, for the historic exhibition-market. «This edition too – explains the mayor – will have a central theme: that of roots. Intended not only as tradition but also as attachment, resilience to the Earth and to the community.”

From the early hours of the morning it will be the big day of the traditional fair which coincides with Liberation Day. Stalls, crafts, whistles, «cupeta», «scapece», the devotion of the faithful in the church of the Madonna del Carmine, but also attractions and shows for children and not only in Piazza Vittoria, organized by the Biblioteca di Cortile e di Campagna and in the “Francesco Greco” municipal villa, with extraordinary equestrian shows, music and country dance shows. Along the route of the fair, which involves the whole town, from the Galugnano entrance to the Castrì entrance, there are many initiatives: exhibitions, workshops and shows. Lunch will be an opportunity to all be together, in a cheerful community lunch organized in the social restaurant «Convivia», in Piazza Garibaldi. In the afternoon, at 3pm, at the “Antonio Garrisi” sports field, the first provincial stage of the S3 volleyball tournament, organized by the Italian Volleyball Federation with the companies AGS Caprarica and Calimera Volley. At 6pm, on the stage set up in the courtyard of the Baronial Palace, the tribute to Lucio Dalla with the show-concert «Dalla: dove’s that take, dove’s that gives» curated by Ayitheatre and Lucio Dalla Acoustic Quartet. «An anniversary marked by tradition, community and art – underlines the mayor – with many opportunities for participation for every taste and age, as the centuries-old San Marco fair has always been».
