here is the program • Wonders of Calabria

An open laboratory, a moment of discussion that focuses on three pillars: heritage, community, visions. This is the third edition of Patir presented during a press conference in the presence of the Councilor for Culture, Alessia Alboresi, the Director of Programming, Giovanni Soda, the co-founder and member of the Rossano Purpurea association, Antonio Monaco and the president by Rossano Purpurea, Alessandra Mazzei. The events sthey will be held from 26 to 28 April at Palazzo San Bernardino and in the Patire monastic complex.

Patir is container and containing, space and subject of ideas, comparison, scientific action, future planning. “Mediterranean, cultures and exchanges” is the claim of this edition. The Mediterranean has always been a theater and crossroads of different peoples, cultures, traditions and religions. Some of the greatest civilizations of the past arose on the shores of the Mare Nostrum and have indelibly marked the course of history.

“PATIR: Identity, Heritage, Visions” will see the participation of important expressions of the ministry of culture, universities, institutions, the third sector, entrepreneurship, of those who wish to initiate and promote actions that aim at awareness, protection and valorization of the extraordinary asset that the Patire is, together with the natural context that hosts it.

The presentation

«Patir is an open Lab, born from the desire to discuss different topics in an open, constructive way. Which are all focused on three founding themes: heritage, community, visions, therefore heritage – declared the president of Rossano Purpurea, Alessandra Mazzei – In concert with the municipal administration, we worked on the topics to be discussed and on how to fill this event with meaning and values. Patir moves around the axis of the Community. We often say that the community must be involved, it must become aware. We are therefore looking for different ways, ways and paths to involve it, starting from schools and young people, to reflect together on a model of sustainable development focused on quality of life. Also discussing the organization of our time. Schools are important guardians of the values of democracy and peace, of inclusion but they are organized with models that could be reconsidered if put online and also at City level. A reorganization that can give an impetus to culture, the economy, the use of cultural heritage, local tourism and I am referring in particular, and it is an aspect that we will explore in greater depth, in the opening meeting on the 26th morning at Palazzo San Bernardino, to the proposal of a city network of schools that are organized, on the model of the short week, in such a way that Friday, Saturday and Sunday can become a useful time not only to improve the quality of life, with time for the family, sport, hobbies but also to enjoy. better about the city, its economic activities, its cultural heritage, and get to know it more”

«In Patir there is a story of the city that represents itself, both towards its own community and towards the outside, through its extraordinary historical and cultural heritage. Heritage on which, in recent years, a coordinated and integrated strategy at the urban scale has been implemented. According to Open PNRR data, the Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano has activated 81 projects on the PNRR, which places the city in first place in Calabria and among the first in the South. The total investments amount to 115 million euros, including the PNRR, other European funds or national and regional programming – stated the manager soda – Of these, 45 million euros (40%) are concentrated on historic centres. More specifically, 15 million, equal to 33% of the total in historic centers and 13% of the overall investment, are aimed at cultural heritage itself. These are absolute and percentage values of great importance, which demonstrate particular attention in investment planning and municipal public policies towards the theme of historical and cultural heritage. The path, just undertaken, for the recognition of the Oratory of San Marco as a World Heritage Site is part of this strategy, within a serial site that includes four other exceptional historical assets of Calabria, within the framework of the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972. It is a challenge of extraordinary significance and value for the City and the local community in all its components: Municipality, institutions, Church, civil society, associations, businesses”

220424 PATIR SODA AND ALBORESI - Wonders of Calabria - 8

«It is an event in which we have invested a lot, we believed in it because behind us we have a serious and well-organised association, like Rossano Purpurea, which truly works from a scientific and cultural point of view with great value and competence – declared the councilor Alboresi – the first panel, which is the one that will open the three days of Patir, on April 26th, is the one that sees me most involved and also most enthusiastic because we have talked about it a lot in recent years, difficult years for various reasons, but it offers us the possibility of starting a new path with schools by addressing the issue of the short week, which is always poorly conveyed, “kids don’t go to school so they spend two extra days at home”. And instead it has a whole cultural and even tourist aspect, which needs to be explained. It is an idea that must begin to be conveyed. The other aspect on which I would like to focus concerns the UNESCO assets and the tentative list which sees us involved together with the city of Gerace and significant monuments located in Santa Severina, Stilo and Bivongi. With this path we could close the numerical gap that sees Calabria as the only region not to have UNESCO assets, according to Convention 72. Last Wednesday we participated in a meeting in the Region dedicated to the 2024 UNESCO Tentative list. Meeting in which we committed to continuing on this important path of valorization which involves religious and civil institutions, guaranteeing our support for the entire complex process necessary for the candidacy dossier. In the wake of this commitment, in “PATIR, Heritage, Visions, Community” there is a panel entirely dedicated to the Tentative List 2024, conceived as a moment of involvement of the local community and discussion between all the subjects involved in the presence of international UNESCO experts. This is truly the result of an active and positive collaboration between associations and institutions. I thank everyone for this.”
