With the president of the WWF Sicily Mediterranean Area, Giuseppe Mazzottaaccompanied by Tonino Lo Brutto, provincial representative of the Civic Health Network, already working for the Region’s Water and Waste Department, the students of second class of secondary school of the “Dante Alighieri” complex of the “Giovanni XXIII” comprehensive institute of Cammaratathis was discussed and the students asked precise and targeted questions to which we tried to give answers aimed at resolving, but not consoling, perspectives.
The meeting was introduced by Professor Antonio Gaziano, who, bringing the greetings of the school director Dr. Giusy Gugliotta, illustrated with whom the preparatory work for the meeting was carried out, where the kids tested themselves with concrete and unequivocal statistical data, which were expressed in half a dozen boards full of graphs and images.
Also the councilor Maria Concetta Mangiapane, who brought the greetings of mayor Giuseppe Mangiapane, was extremely clear: without awareness of the future there is no outlet for the new generations in the challenge against climate change. The problem is clear to everyone around the world, as has been clarified several times by the guests Wwf: “Only through a planetary effort, which accompanies humanity to a drastic ecological transition, will we be able to get out of it, for the rest it’s a matter of feeling sorry for ourselves.
Also the students of the Euroform Institute of Licata they met with the WWF, the Coast Guard and the Lions for delve deeper into the theme of the sea. Guests of the structure and welcomed by the Dgs, Gloria Incorvaia, who underlined the importance of the topic discussed. The works opened with a video produced by the Lions district committee on the protection of the coasts and the sea – environment area, of which Giovanni Alga is responsible. The president of the Lions club of Licata, Agostino Balsamo, invited everyone to reflect on the beauty of our sea, which however must suffer continuous aggression from man’s actions. Followed by the commander of the Licata Coast Guard, Gabriele Servidio, who illustrated the many activities that the military carries out at the service of the community and the marine ecosystem.
She intervened too vice-president and local manager of the WWF, Sandra Bennicito highlight how in Licata every year there are hundreds of eggs laid by sea turtles, on which the WWF Italyin Sicily, is the owner of the only project that authorizes around fifty operators, scattered along all the coasts of the island, to act for the study of the life of these animals, from the laying of eggs to the care of the nests, up to the birth of the little ones safely.
The last speech was that of the president of the WWF Sicily Mediterranean Area, Giuseppe Mazzotta, who went into the details of the WWF Turtle Project, explaining to the students the importance of knowing how to recognize the presence of mother turtle on the coast that leaves unmistakable traces on the sand.
It is by calling the Coast Guard or WWF, thanks to the many citizens, volunteers by nature or by chance, that the nesting sites are identified and safeguarded from any accidents that may occur due to humans or animals.

Acting to promote youth awareness of the environmental aggressions that are consuming our planet, this is the purpose of the meetings that WWF volunteers continue to hold in all the schools where they are called, because the instinct of the future lies in young people.
