“We have been silent out of respect for other people’s decisions and we have not had discussions with the PD and the Todde Coalition since April 11th. We take note of the agreement reached by the Coalition and thank the new mayoral candidate for immediately proposing a new meeting at the Constituent Assembly for Sassari”. Thus begins the press release Constituent for Sassari released yesterday evening, i.e. on the same day in which the centre-left coalition presented its candidate for the race for Palazzo Ducale: Giuseppe Mascia.

In the meeting that should be held tomorrow, Mariano Brianda, former magistrate and candidate for mayor supported by the Constituent Assembly for Sassari, of which he is one of the founders, will reiterate to Mascia “the need to expand forms of citizen participation, as well as guaranteeing the expectations of safeguarding a free and numerous electorate, not included in the ordinary circuits of politics and parties and which the Constituent Assembly for Sassari, with its multiple activities among citizens, has intercepted and valorised in all these years of social promotion”.

“It is undeniable – comments the Constituent Assembly – that, among the elements of guarantee for this electorate, the people who will represent the government of the City and the implementation of the program have a fundamental and decisive weight: the real renewal of politics and distancing from an old way of doing politics also of the centre-left which has distanced citizens from voting, as well as a representative capacity of both the traditional electorate and those disappointed and external to the parties.

In this regard, the Constituent Assembly has already made several openings for the identification of a mayoral candidate who can guarantee not only the traditional centre-left electorate but also the civic electorate represented by the Constituent Assembly”.

Here, then, is the appeal and the hope: “We therefore make an appeal for the broader involvement of civil society and those citizens who no longer vote. Given these premises, the hope is that the broad and multiple openings of the Constituent Assembly will be matched by the Todde coalition’s desire to meet and share and that we will work loyally together with the Constituent Assembly for Sassari to the construction of a very large field that leads to victory in the first round”.
