The first experience didn’t go very well Lecce in a UEFA competition but, in hindsight, the final result was almost inevitable. The Giallorossi, freshman in Youth Leaguethey immediately fished theOlympiacos. A double return crossing on paper was affordable, seeing the latest results of the Greeks in the competition… we thought.
3-1 in the first leg, 1-3 in the return
The two matches were even close. On the way out the Lecce lost in Greece, however he scored a goal with Pascalau and the match was significantly affected by Zivanovic’s expulsion in the first half. 1-1 until the 70th minute, in the final stages of the match the Greeks secured a good lead.
On the way back there wasn’t much of a story. Olympiacos immediately closed the score: in the twentieth minute the Salento players were already two goals down. In the second half Helm’s flag goal and the 1-3 which closed the score. Overall final: 6-2. Deserved progress for the challengers, many mitigating circumstances for Coppitelli’s team, in year zero of a new cycle and unlucky in the episodes.
Olympiacos’ triumphant journey
Olympiacos then also went through the second qualifying round, annihilating Qabala 7-0 on aggregate. They subsequently beat Inter out on penalties after a hard-fought 0-0 draw; then Lens was also out on penalties (2-2); nothing to do for Bayern Munich either (1-3).
The arrival in the final
The semi-final against the French side Nantes took place on Friday afternoon: a further demonstration of strength from eleven metres. The single match, in fact, ended 0-0, but the Greeks won on penalties.
Domination against Milan
Today the final took place against Camarda and his teammates’ AC Milan; clear and deserved result: 3-0 for Olympiacos. The Greeks raise the cup, crowning a triumphal journey that began in Salento.
