It was held on Tuesday 16 April first citizen table on local food policiesorganized by the Municipality of Cuneo as part of the project “In Civitas Food: Empowerment, Actions, Territory for a citizenship that nourishes the future”, of which the municipality is a partner and LVIA is the lead body. The meeting took place in the renovated premises of “Famù nel Parco”, on Viale degli Angeli.

The aim of the table is to involve local stakeholders in a process of meeting and exchange to arrive at a definition increasingly sustainable city food policies and truly placed in the territorial context of our city, in order to activate sustainable behaviors and practices at the same time for all the different actors involved.

They attended the table third sector reality, entities, private social, businesses, youth services and associationsin addition to Piemonte region and theAgency local healtheach bringing their own vision and experience within the large supply chain that moves around the world of food, from often very different points of view and starting situations.

To introduce the work that the table is called to do, Professor Egidio Dansero, full professor of Economic-Political Geography of the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society of the University of Turin, was invited as coordinator of the Italian Network of Local Food and of the Food Atlas of Turin Metropolitana. During his speech he framed the topic, illustrating the genesis, processes, state of affairs and prospects of local food policies. From here the work of the participants at the table continued, through the exchange of experiences and points of view.

The “In Cibo Civitas” project, financed byAicsthe Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development, involves four Italian regions (Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Sicily) with the aim of promoting more conscious behavior and active participation of citizens to promote a sustainable food system.

“The city of Cuneo is attentive to the theme of sustainability, expressed in all its meanings”, said the mayor Patrizia Manassero, opening the work of the table. “We lacked a specific path that brought together different subjects and points of view to build a shared vision and gaze, from which to start to define sustainable city food policies. Good practices and virtuous behaviors already exist and have been carried out individually for some time, it is now a question of creating a system and making them structural. The process has begun and the effort will be to involve as many experiences as possible.”

Now, work on the topic continues with the collection of suggestions, needs and requirements among the subjects who are part of the table through a questionnaire, with a view to convening a second meeting at the beginning of June and a third after the summer, with specific in-depth courses.
