Will Molfetta be a city tailored to the needs of the population in the coming years? Will it be functional with respect to the future needs of the Molfetta population? Two questions the city asks itself as it is inundated by a general restyling.

While waiting to see the effects of the restyling on the city, Istat has released the provisional data on the demographics of our city: at the beginning of 2024 the population of Molfetta was 57,245 with a female prevalence, the statistical institute counted 29,453 women and 27792 men, with a decrease in the population compared to the previous 365 days of 213 units. The natural balance was negative compared to the 381 children born, 687 people left earthly life leaving an unbridgeable void in their family.

The dim pink prevailed in births with 198 girls born while there were 183 boys. The month where the most babies arrived was September with 45 births, 24 boys and 21 girls, followed by July with 44 births where girls prevailed ( 27) compared to boys (17). February and December are the months with the fewest births (21).

There were 687 deaths that affected the families of the Molfetta people, 350 were the women who left us while 337 were the men. The most disastrous month was January with 91 deaths distributed equally between the two sexes.

Partly offsetting the negative balance was the migratory flow with a positive balance: 798 immigrants of which 188 came from abroad. Unfortunately, 705 citizens of Molfetta have left our city: 617 have decided to move to other cities in Italy while 88 have preferred to go abroad. The surprising fact is that most of those who have decided to go abroad are women.

If these data provided by Istat which will be validated and made definitive together with other parameters in the coming months, describe to us that in the future Molfetta will be a beautiful and empty city with an elderly population that will need a welfare structure. The numerous buildings that are built will perhaps never be inhabited. In addition to using social media as a megaphone to publicize its “cathedrals” in the desert, the “palace” listens to the voice of young people who, through social media, ask for what they prefer for their city and for their future and not use them only as bearers of votes.
