One of the undisputed merits of the Notebooks of the Civic Museum of Cuneo is that they highlight small treasures of our city that most of the time go unnoticed. Number 11 is no exception to this cultural direction and from the first essay points out an aspect that is clear to all visitors to the cloister of the Sanctuary of the Angels.
The lunettes that portray moments from the life of Saint Francis constitute “an extraordinary heraldic monument” of the Cuneo noble families who commissioned or financed them around the middle of the 18th century. In particular, Attilio Offman’s study provides a description of one of these coats of arms, which is not particularly visible.
This is the coat of arms of the Canubi-Bolleris family, viscounts of Demonte. Beyond the detailed analysis, which offers an example of the complex work of heraldry, the study also presents itself as a clear example of the intertwining of multiple scientific fields in reconstructing local history. Heraldry in particular speaks of noble families, of relationships with much more powerful lords, of kinship relationships in a vast network of historical information.
No less important is the second work by Silvana Cincotti which takes us to the Casa Galimberti Museum to discover a canvas by Gaetano Previati. A “Holy Family” of which the researcher provides a personal interpretation full of sensitivity, together with a framework of the artist working between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The other essays which underline the attention towards early childhood and towards some disabilities are dedicated to Cuneo and to the proposals to make the enjoyment of the cultural experience possible. Finally, he realizes the original initiative of the ArcheoFilm Festival last October.
