Pd Piemonte, Gribaudo off topic: local congress after the polls

DEMOCRATIC TRAVALS

Oscar Serra 10.18pm Monday 22 April 2024

A month away from the European and regional elections, the vice president of the party continues to settle scores on the domestic theatre. In the places where you launched your descent into the field, you invoke the redde rationem after June 9th, but at your initiative only a group of militants

On the day in which the Democratic Party registered Elly Schlein also collapses in Basilicata, where the outgoing governor Vito Bardi triumphs against the red-yellow alliance, a Turin around a hundred militants, voters, managers, administrators and curious people (such as the entrepreneur Federico De Giuli or the former Turin councilor Gianguido Passoni who has never been a member of the Democratic Party and perhaps has never voted for it) met at the Off Topic, at the instigation of the deputy Chiara Gribaudo. “Let’s liberate the Democratic Party” was the claim initially chosen by the vice president of the party, in the aftermath of the investigation that she had overwhelmed Salvatore Gallo (and forced his son Raffaele to withdraw his candidacy for the Regionals). After the outpouring of criticism and accusations of stirring up trouble, using a current initiative (the one that refers to Schlein) to say “no” to the currents, a more neutral “Change the Democratic Party, change Piedmont” has become. Format with timer for each intervention, Leopolda style: 3 minutes each.

The MP from Borgo San Dalmazzo, who had already been at the Off Topic when she launched her candidacy for the regional elections at the end of last year, however choosing the more spacious room of the Cubo, is aiming for a “local” congress after the polls on June 9th. It is not clear what he is referring to, whether regional or the Turin Federation. In her speech the proposal for an “organizational conference of the Democratic Party immediately after the European elections to reorganize active participation in politics”. Alongside Gribaudo, in the front row, the vice president of the Senate Anna Rossomando, the deputy Mauro Berrutothe candidates for the European elections Davide Matiello (former Libera representative) e Antonella Parigi (resigning president of “Turin City for Women”), the outgoing regional councilor Mauro Salizzoni. And just as Berruto was explaining the need for change and “not hiding rubbish under the carpet”, the mayor of Moncalieri also entered Paolo Montagna, who in 2022 agreed to a 10-month sentence for fictitious probation after being accused of two ideological falsehoods and abusive access to the protected IT system of the police force. The Cuperlian parliamentarian, however, was absent Andrea Giorgisalso a supporter of Schlein, but who has already had the opportunity to express his doubts about this event in private, as has the Turin councilor Chiara Foglietta.

“This initiative – explained Gribaudo – is an open moment, built with colleagues by listening to the voices of PD supporters and militants because we need to discuss. We are the only party that does it, we did it yesterday in the national direction, we do it in the territories and we do it because we believe that the problems must be faced openly without putting our heads under the carpet because we want a different political model, more clear, more transparent and that it is clear to everyone that we are a large and plural community”. And to those who pointed out that today’s meeting had been interpreted by some as a divisive initiative within the party, Gribaudo observed that “this evening’s meeting is a moment open to all those who want to give a positive and constructive contribution for the Democratic Party. Naturally there is a question of method that we ask”, concluded the vice president of the Dem, underlining the need for “a reflection on method and organization of the territorial party too” after the June vote.
