“It’s shameful, we pay to have this massacre”. The residents of Sbarre are not in agreement and invite the municipal administration to take action because “it is not possible to have a city, condominiums, streets, squares full of rubbish”.
Bags of unsorted waste left for more than 15 days, many of these opened by cats and stray dogs that circulate in the area, tubs of plastic, paper and damp still to be collected, stand out inside an apartment block in central Barre but, the situation does not change for almost all the suburbs where you can “admire open-air landfills”.
“We understand the change in management and the difficulty of the collection company operators but we can no longer tolerate this environmental degradation in our homes – states Mr. Vincenzo -. Let’s also consider the incivility of some residents and non-residents who do not use the tub correctly or respect the established days for depositing the rubbish but, for this incivility the Municipality must intervene by checking and, possibly, fining those who do not pay the TARI. For people like me and many other residents here who, however, pay correctly and respect times and days for recycling, seeing this degradation is unacceptable.”
On the same wavelength, there are many citizens who complain about landfills that “Unfortunately, they are becoming a global health emergency”.
“There are no controls and anyone now allows themselves to leave rubbish of all kinds – adds Mrs Francesca -. Unfortunately, what we see has become a “normal” situation and no one takes any action. Even going for a walk seems impossible, we have to slalom through the waste and all this because there is a lack of adequate and credible controls on the part of the institutions that should sanction those who mistake public spaces for a landfill”.
One thing is certain, the people of Reggio are tired of the lack of services and even more so, of those who should listen and look better at what is happening in the city and make environmental defacers understand that the abandonment and uncontrolled storage of waste is always punished as a contravention crime. .
