Start of the week full of bad weather in Lombardy (and in much of Italy): in particular in Valtellina and Valchiavenna the scenarios have returned to being mid-winter, after the almost summery days of last week. There is still skiing on some slopes, with temperatures rising during the day up to 6-7 degrees below zero and during the night hours they drop further, reaching -10/11 degrees. In the last hours the snowfall level has dropped to 600 metres: all the peaks surrounding Sondrio are covered in snow, while at high altitude, in mountain tourist centers such as Madesimo and Livignorainfall is abundant and snow plows are working at full capacity to keep the roads passable.
Rain, however, on the valley floor and a drop in temperatures across the entire Sondriese area, with fireplaces, stoves and heating systems still turned on in private homes and accommodation facilities. The avalanche risk remains high in the Lombardy Alps and several passes are closed due to snow or passable only with chains. Guilt, as the bulletin of theRegional harp, of “a vast depression structure from the north of Scandinavia that extends south to the coasts of North Africa and affects a large part of Europe. This configuration is associated with the descent of cold air at all altitudes.”
However, the situation is not destined to improve immediately, either in Milanwhere today will be characterized by intense rain: “Today will be the worst day: temperatures in the city reached 5°C. A notable drop, if you consider that on the weekend of 13 and 14 April the thermometer even reached 30°C – he underlines Samantha Pilati, meteorologist at the Omd Foundation-Milan Duomo Meteorological Observatory – The whole week will still be characterized by instability, even if with some improvements compared to the current situation”.
According to experts in Milan, tomorrow the sky will be very cloudy and rain is still expectedbut with the possibility of some brightening, while Wednesday and Thursday “will be sunny days. Anyone who wants to take a trip on April 25th will most likely be lucky, in short – continues Pilati – But a new worsening will occur as early as Fridaywith strong instability that will continue throughout the weekend and in all likelihood also for the first days of next week.”
As for temperatures, they will remain “below average also in the next few days, but gradually rising. From tomorrow they will probably hover around 10°C, reaching around 15°C over the weekend – concludes the meteorologist -. Next week instead they should take on decidedly more spring-like values, reaching and perhaps exceeding the average for the period. We will arrive around 20°C”.
