In the first quarter of 2024 only 16% of companies asked for them

REGGIO EMILIA – In the period between January and March of this year, only 16% of companies in the province of Reggio Emilia requested financing for new investments and just a quarter of the total plan to resort to debt in the next three months.

This is also because the cost of a medium or long-term mortgage has broken through the 6% threshold while one of the instruments most used by businesses, the advance on invoices to be collected, has stopped its trend thanks to the average drop in the spreads offered by the banks . Finally, war and geopolitical tensions continue to induce a “wait-and-see” behavior in Reggio Emilia’s entrepreneurs.

This is what the provincial Unindustria recorded in the survey of the industrial sector in the first quarter of 2024. “It is time for courageous choices by the European Central Bank. Europe cannot afford to submit to the dynamics of the Central Bank of the United States of America at a time when the economies (European and US) are so different”, says Mauro Macchiaverna, councilor of the association delegated for tax, credit and corporate finance.

“The monetary push will certainly have to be accompanied by a convincing strategic program,” he adds. “The radical change proposed by Mario Draghi in recent days goes precisely in that direction,” Macciaverna finally underlines.
