Ragusa. Sabbinìrica: a journey through history, culture and profound meanings in the heart of Sicily

THEthe Ancient Greeting is “Sabbinirica a Vossia”; a greeting used until the 1950s and 1960s by our Sicilian ancestors (grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.). This greeting was used at all times of the day, especially in the morning or when we met on the street; it expressed a form of Blessing.

This greeting was usually responded to with: “Santu e Riccu!” (translation: “May you be holy and rich!”).

Nowadays it corresponds to the current Buongiorno or Ciao!!!
