Savona Meeting with Alessandro Sibilio: 400hs of the highest level – the presentation

Savona, 22 April 2024 – Alessandro Sibilio will open at International Meeting City of Savona their Olympic season.

In 2021, the Italian specialist in the 400m hurdles was among the most welcome surprises of the Italian season with the final reached at the Tokyo Games and a personal best under 48 seconds (47.93): his magical year had started right from Savona, where he won leading at 49.25 his record has stood since 2017. Sibilio, second in Savona 2023 in 48.72 after an exciting duel with the Qatari Samba, will make his seasonal debut on the “four acca” in the Challenger stage of the World Athletics Tour scheduled for Wednesday 15 May in “Giulio Ottolia Sports Complex”, with the organization of Atletica Savona.

Sibilio will be put to the test above all by European opponents: Thomas Barra 31-year-old Irishman who was fourth at the 2016 Games and third at the 2018 European Championships, boasts a personal best of 47.97; Joshua Abuaku, German, reached 48.12 last year, when he was a world championship finalist in Budapest (eighth); then there is another Italian Mario Lambrughiat 32 years old having reached full competitive maturity, with a world semi-final under his belt, a personal best of 48.99 and an Italian record in the 300m hurdles just raised to 34.83.

The City of Savona Meeting will also offer an excellent women’s 400m hurdles. Ukraine Anna Ryzhykova, national record holder with 52.96, will be the most awaited athlete: in her CV the 2012 Olympic bronze with the 4×400 and many individual placings in the “four acca” (fifth position at the Tokyo Games and three world championship finals). The most credible opponent will be the British Jessie Knighta personal best of 54.09 and (like Ryzhykova) “heavy” medals in the 4×400 (one world championship bronze outdoors and one indoors).

In blue key, red circle on top Rebecca Sartori, which dropped to 54.82 at the 2023 World Championships after having achieved gold at the Mediterranean Games the year before. In addition to her there will be her training partner Eleonora Marchiando55.13 in her career and the winner of the 2023 edition Alice Muraro, gold at the Universiade with his PB of 55.48.
