An uncivilized and shameful act was perpetrated the other night at the Villa Comunale. Unknown persons vandalized the monument dedicated to the Fallen, the work of the artist Salvatore Gallo.
“It is a gesture that goes beyond all limits of decency, respect for the sacred places of the monuments and our city heritage. This is an offense not only to local institutions, but also to the city itself. We strongly condemn this action, which cannot be minimized as a simple prank, but which represents a targeted attack against our Administration and our community. The hand that carried out this vile gesture ignores the symbolic value for the collective memory of this city of ours and the value of that monument installed in the Villa Comunale. Shame on you. If it is an attack against this Administration, know that we will stop at nothing. We will not allow such ignoble acts to undermine our commitment to preserving and enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of our city” declared Mayor Francesco Aiello.
