GIULIANOVA. The left pole points up Daniele Di Massimantonio. The attempt to build a broad and progressive coalition for Giulianova, capable of challenging the center-right led by the outgoing mayor, fails Jwan Costantiniin the last few days, after the confirmation by the Democratic Party of supporting, together with the 5 Star Movement, the candidacy of the governing Citizen’s councilor Alberta Ortolani, the associations and parties of the left have begun a process aimed at creating an alternative coalition to the right. The objective is to differentiate itself also from the lineup composed of Citizen Governante, Pd and M5S.
«I gave life to an extreme attempt, also considering the limited time available», he states Antonio Macera, exponent of Nos-Noi, “but this attempt to build a public health and recovery coalition for the city was unsuccessful.” The origin of this intention dates back to a meeting that took place in recent days which involved the city’s progressive political and associative forces, including the Dems, Action and representatives of Insider. «On that occasion», continues Macera, «the Democratic Party was asked to assume the leadership of a progressive and democratic front, to start a process of reorganization of local politics, due to the unity of the centre-left». The representative of Nos-Noi underlines that however «this request has remained unheard, while renewing the hope that, despite the challenges and internal divisions, the progressive, environmentalist and left-wing panorama can find unity again». The subsequent meeting, held on Friday until the evening between parties and lists of the centre-left area which chose not to support Ortolani, did not however produce the desired effect: the unitary intent faded away on the name of Gianluca Grimi as a hypothetical mayoral candidate proposed by “Sustainable Evolution” and Action. So Nos-Noi, socialists, the People’s Union and the Italian Left are considering the idea of competing alone in the local elections with Di Massimantonio as aspiring mayor. «We took a moment to reflect», states the person directly involved, «to evaluate whether to go it alone and in the next few hours we will untie the knot regarding the candidate: the central front, with Grimi as mayoral candidate, has in reality been transformed into a front centre-right”. In the meantime, Grimi himself, during a meeting held yesterday afternoon, withdrew his willingness to run as the conditions for the alternative “public health” alliance to the outgoing administration no longer exist.
