PAVIA. For more sustainable mobility and for a city more suitable for pedestrians and cyclists: on Sunday 21 April, at 3.30 pm, the bicycle procession organized by the Pavia group of Fridays for Future, the eco-activists who following the example by Greta Thumberg set the goal of eliminating emissions generated by fossil fuels.

The bike ride from Piazza della Vittoria will reach Lungoticino via Strada Nuova and then go up Viale della Libertà and from here proceed towards Via Brichetti. Then the Longobardi roundabout, viale Bligny, viale Campari, via Villa Eleonora to turn onto viale Montegrappa and from here, passing through viale Partigiani and viale Gorizia to reach Piazza del Municipio.

The bicycle procession was organized in connection with the World Day of Climate Action but in Pavia it also takes on a more local meaning, closely linked to the municipal elections of 8 and 9 June. And it is no coincidence that Palazzo Mezzabarba, the seat of the Municipality, was chosen for the arrival of the event. «We can’t wait to read the electoral programs of the candidates for mayor of Pavia, we hope for an authentic dialogue with them», Pietro Losio of the Pavia board of Fridays for Future explained when presenting the initiative.

«These are important actions for us – added Losio – who want to underline the urgency of a plan to redevelop the city. The mayoral candidates should be prepared and ready to start from scratch with the PGT to rethink the management of the territory, putting the needs of the neighborhood committees and citizens at the center.”
