«Mayor and Council prepare as soon as possible a resolution to identify, in agreement with the Province, the most appropriate path for the acquisition of the roadman’s house of Borgo Santa Maria into the municipal heritage». This is the proposal of the opposition council groups, contained in a motion that they will present to the city council convened for Wednesday 24 April.
For the city councilors of LBC, M5S, Pd and Per Latina 2032, there is no longer any more procrastination. «In 2022, by decree of the president, – they explain – the good was done inserted in the disposal plan of the Via Costa institution and the publication of the notice for the sale of these alienable properties is imminent. But the roadman’s house can be excluded from public auction if the Municipality moves in time by making a precise and immediate commitment. We ask this first of all to the Mayor, as signatory of the motion voted unanimously by the city council on 23 March 2022: that act committed the administration at the time to acquire the roadman’s house of Santa Maria and to sign a program agreement with the Province for its redevelopment”.
The value of the asset is approximately 90 thousand euros. «It is true that once the tender has been published the Municipality can exercise the right of pre-emption as a public body. However, – the councilors underline – an agreement with the Province would allow this money to be saved and used to renovate that property, as the Borgo community has been asking for for some time. The suitable instrument could be that of an agreement with the Province. But first we need a clear direction, sanctioned by a council act.”
«It is a commitment that we owe to the inhabitants of the Borgo, – add the opposition forces – who for almost ten years have been asking, also through a collection of signatures, to have a space that can be used for social, cultural and recreational activities. To date, the building and its green area are fenced off and in a state of abandonment. A first fruitful dialogue with the Province was started in March 2021 by the then councilor Emilio Ranieri. This dialogue should be resumed to establish the most useful administrative path for the purposes of public use of the property in the forms provided for by current legislation. It is a necessary and urgent step to start a recovery project that returns the roadman’s house to its territorial garrison function and to the community of Santa Maria a place of aggregation and a play center for girls and boys.”
