The former Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, presented his book “Why we will heal, from the hardest days to a new idea of health” in Taranto at the Acclavio Library, in dialogue with the journalist of the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, Maristella Massari and with the director of the Health Department of the Puglia Region, Vito Montanaro.

Speranza was the protagonist of the fight against the pandemic and in his volume, published by Solferino, he deals with the history of Covid, explaining how the virus was tackled, directly from the rooms of the Ministry of Health where he worked tirelessly. Those dramatic months are retraced, from the explosion of infections to the first very harsh lockdown, and then the fear, the curfew, the security measures, up to the vaccination campaign that finally allowed us to emerge from the tunnel. The story of the pandemic therefore told from the inside, from the point of view of those like former minister Speranza who had to make decisions on which the lives of thousands of people depended. The story written by Roberto Speranza is a precious memory, especially now in the presence of a contraction in investments in the healthcare sector. And a country that does not value its healthcare personnel, that does not put them in the conditions to work at their best, that does not defend and strengthen its public healthcare, the author writes, is a country that will find itself disarmed. And Italy cannot afford this.
