Sergio Brio: for the Pistoiese we need conditions for a new path

PISTOIA – Pistoia remained in his heart, so much so that he decided to stay there to live. Sergio Brio, although originally from Lecce, can now be considered a true Pistoia native.

A man from Pistoia who is very attached to the orange colours, also for having worn them at the beginning of his career, before flying to Turin where he wore those of Juventus for over a decade. Who doesn’t remember one of the strongest defenses in the history of world football: Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Scirea and Brio, precisely.

Precisely for this reason, who more than him can express an opinion on what has happened and is happening in Pistoiese in this period?

“I feel bitterness – he says – in seeing that Pistoia is left without a football team to represent it. These situations happen around, but Pistoia doesn’t deserve all this. Damage to the image of the city and to athletes.”

But now we need to start again. We need to put ideas back together and create the conditions for a new path.

“Pistoiese – adds the former Juventus central defender – must return to the hands of the Pistoiese. The city’s entrepreneurs must find the strength to realize a project. A multi-year project that allows us to plan a solid future with orange colors. There are many things to do, starting with the infrastructure (stadium and sports center) and the youth sector. At this moment it is also up to politics to do its part, choosing the most valid sporting projects.”

And then he launches an idea that had already been mentioned in the past, but had never really taken hold.

“I would see well, in this moment of restart – underlines Sergio Brio – the creation of a sports club. A synergy with all the city’s sports that could benefit everyone and find more resources. In Spain all companies are structured like this.”

In recent days an entrepreneur has personally stepped forward to rebuild and give a future to the Pistoiese area: Sergio Iorio.

“I don’t know him personally – says Brio – but why not? Anyone who can give strength to a serious project is welcome.”

And on whose legs could a serious project take its steps?

“I would see well – concludes Sergio Brio – someone with great experience and prestige like Claudio Nassi, to whom we could entrust the orange rebirth. But there are many people who could do the good of Pistoiese, like Gabriele Matteoni, also a great fan, who could be useful in any capacity, just as there are certainly others too.”
