Employment needs in Italy

According to the report of Unioncamere And Anpal (National Agency for Active Work Policies), in the next 5 years Italy will need, overall, between 3.1 and 3.6 million workers, depending on the more or less favorable macro-economic scenario in terms of growth of GDP, equal to an average of 630-730 thousand units per year. The data highlights that employees in the private sector will contribute to determining the majority of the need (more than 3 out of 5 employed). Public employees will have a weight of 22%, while the share of independents will stand at 17%.

Looking at the sectorsalmost 80% of the employment demand will come from all sectors of the servicesincluding the Public administrationwith an estimated need of between 2.5 and 2.8 million units between 2024 and 2028, while the demand for industrial sectors will vary between 656 thousand and 789 thousand units, for a share equal to 21%. The expected labor demand inagriculture it will instead be marginal, equal to approximately 14 thousand units in the positive scenario (7 thousand units in the negative one).

If we look in more detail at the supply chainsthose that will require the most workers in the five-year period are (in order of prevalence):

  • trade And tourism;
  • other public and private services, which include public administration services and operational support services for businesses and people;

  • training And culture.

Italy will need teachers

Professors and teachers in schools will be among the most requested profiles for the next 5 years in Italy, both in the public and private sectors. “The demand for these professions – explained the analysts – is particularly relevant also in light of the rate of requirement”, which for teaching is very high. The need rate quantifies the relationship between the expected need (demand for workers) and the stock of employed people (those who carry out the job). This rate, according to Unioncamere, will in fact stand at 5.3-5.6% on average per year for the next 5 years teachers of primary and pre-primary schools and 4.5-4.8% for those of secondary and post-secondary schools.

The demand for other specialists ineducation and in training.
