Emergency stop and torches lit in the Eni refinery in Taranto. With consequent black smoke that invaded the sky of Taranto. The problem in the plant right on the outskirts of the Ionian capital has emerged since the end of last night. According to what we learn from union sources, there were some disruptions in the plant and the shutdown was triggered. Consequently, the torches were opened for safety reasons and above all to lower the pressure of the entire system. The opening of the torches caused emissions that were visible even from a distance. According to the same sources, it should now take a few days for the refinery to restart.
The indiscretion
Other union sources specify that the energy went out at the refinery’s electrical substation 1 and this brought everything to a standstill. Some plants were already shut down, after this event the shutdown extended to the entire complex, but the company is already working on the restoration. The instrument area which, from the control room, is used to open and close the valves, was also blocked. Now the ongoing inspection also concerns this part of the refinery. There was also an initial fire, apparently in one of the valves, which however was immediately re-entered and neutralized.
