(By Anthony Carrano). Taranto is preparing to play its last match of this championship within its friendly walls. Tough opponent for the rossoblù who will see the second in the class, Mister Pazienza’s Avellino, take to the Iacovone pitch. Speaking in the press conference preceding the match, Ezio Capuano, coach of the Ionian team, spoke.

PRESENTATION OF THE RACE

“These matches are not difficult to play, our advantage was to arrive at this match with the ranking we currently have. We know we’re playing against the team that, as far as I’m concerned, is the strongest in this championship. Arriving at the penultimate matchday just three points behind this team means that we managed to create a footballing masterpiece. Avellino needs no introduction, such a strong team for which I would have expected even more for the human potential it has available. I still have many friends in Irpinia and I want to reiterate that it was a great honor for me to coach Avellino.”

SET OBJECTIVE

Our goal before starting the championship was to maintain the category by improving what we did last season. Last year, we did very well and came within one goal of the playoffs. This season we have moved forward through important planning made up of many sacrifices. We are the real surprise of this championship.”

APPEAL REJECTED

“Notwithstanding that I am not very competent in the matter, four points seemed very excessive to me. Speaking with the lawyer Chiacchio, he reassured us that we would get at least two points back. For us the result of this sentence represented a double penalty. I entered the locker room and told my boys that our ranking says we have 63 points, proud and honored of what we have done, it belongs to history and as such cannot be erased. We know that the real ranking says that we have 59 points, but we will try to transform the anger we have accumulated in the next two games, without any kind of alibi.”

UNLUCKY DIRECT CLASHES

“I think I always reiterate the same concepts, leaving the hypocrisy to others. Except for thirty minutes against Casertana in the first round, the team always did well. With Picerno including the Italian Cup, we played three matches where we would have deserved to win at least two. Against Benevento we played an excellent match, while in Avellino I honestly don’t know what the referee came up with in the 95th minute, when he stopped Fabbro only in front of the opposing goalkeeper.”

GAME TECHNIQUES

“I have my own football idea, I have never talked about tactical segments. Our team plays positionally, we are the only ones who play like this. We try to make things as simple as possible regardless of the opposing team’s formation. Our players occupy their portion of the pitch with some precautions depending on who we meet in front of them.”

UNAVAILABLE AND DISQUALIFIED

“They are all well both mentally and physically, maybe some are not in optimal condition, but they are matches that anyone would like to play. Riggio will be disqualified and Panico is not among the squad because he is unwell, unfortunately it is a particular year where many players in the same position get injured, we will find other alternatives as we always have, surely someone will have to play out of position.”

REGARDING THE RUMORS OF ALLEGED RESIGNATIONS WITHIN THE STAFF

“Honestly, the technical staff that I have the pleasure of leading works twenty-four hours a day, the team is very calm, I don’t know if anyone in the club has left, but it doesn’t seem truthful to me as news. It doesn’t seem like anything to me, I open the camp at 7.00 in the morning and I always close it myself and I’m not saying this jokingly. I think I exclude it in the most absolute way.”

REFEREES QUESTION

“If there is a team that has had more penalties in this championship it is mine. I have never spoken, because I have unlimited trust in Maurizio Ciampi who is the designer, if he decided to send this boy to referee, he certainly did it because he considers him worthy. I also know the referee because he has refereed us other times and I consider him a valid match director. I have never complained because like all players, they too are risking an important part of their future. The referees need to be helped.”

TARANTO PUBLIC

“Working in Taranto is a privilege. I am convinced that there will be a lot of people, we deserved it for the performances we provided on the pitch. Tomorrow the public will give us a great hand.”
