“I want to make it great again”

Vote for me to make Florence great again”. Eike Schmidt, former director of the Uffizi, now candidate for mayor of the Tuscan capital for the centre-right, speaks with the “Times” of London, which dedicates a long article to him, after the German weekly “Der Spiegel had already done so in recent days.

According to the British newspaper, Schmidt, under whose direction the Uffizi recorded record attendance, “has a few weeks to try to convince Florentines that he can tackle the city’s problems”, which range from drug dealers in the parks to sandwich shops for tourists they supplant traditional trattorias, since the invasion of Airbnb which colonized the apartments of the historic center. “I decided to run for mayor because I love Florence with all my heart and I can’t see it treated so badly,” she says.

The German art historian also talks about Giorgia Meloni and how he considers her policies and actions as “equivalent to those of any other Conservative Party in Europe or England” and among other things “she is in very good shape better than that of the Tories”.
