A stamp for Eleonora Duse

The stamp for Eleonora Dusemuch announced, finally has a date: Sunday 21 April. The ceremony will be from 11.30am at the Cagnoni theatre. Poste Italiane will be present until 5.30pmall day long, with a philatelic station where it will be possible to purchase the commemorative stamp and related philatelic products. The event is free and open to all.

The chosen drawing (in the photo above) is the work of a painter from Vigevano, Cesare Giardini. It wants to express, according to its creator, «the spiritual transfiguration of the actress’s face when she acts». The event is part of the celebrations for the centenary of the death of the great actress. «Eleonora Duse, iconic figure of Italian and international theater – is the communication from the Municipality of Vigevano – it marked an era with his passionate and emotional interpretation. Born in Vigevano on 3 October 1858 and died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 21 April 1924, she performed on the most prestigious stages. Her art, characterized by a profound psychological introspection and aintense expressiveness, won over audiences and critics all over the world, consecrating her as one of the greatest actresses of all time. This significant event will be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of culture and art in our historical heritage and to honor one of the greatest figures of Italian theatre.”

The issue takes place by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italywhich accepted the request made by the municipal administration of Vigevano.
