Run over in via Ravegnana, cyclist dies

Tragic accident in the early evening yesterday in via Ravegnana in Faenza. An elderly man from Faenza, 88 year old Alessandro Zanzi, was hit and killed by a car driven by a twenty year old, while he was riding a bike. The car, a Fiat Punto convertible, was proceeding along Via Ravegnana from Ravenna towards Faenza when, just beyond the intersection with Via Borgo San Rocco, it hit the elderly man who was on a bicycle in the middle of the road. According to an initial reconstruction, being examined by the officers of the Faenza Police Station, it seems that the 88-year-old was crossing via Ravegnana after leaving the cycle path to go to the nearby house. The alarm was immediately raised and the 118 operators rushed to the scene with two ambulances, the ambulance and the helicopter from the Bologna station. However, the trauma suffered by the elderly man was too serious and the doctor could not help but declare his death. The Carabinieri of the Faenza Company also intervened at the site of the accident to regulate traffic.

A couple of hours earlier, around 5.25pm, a 10-year-old boy was hit by a van while he was riding a bike in Piazza Bologna, in Borgo. The vehicle, driven by a 69-year-old from Faenza, hit the child on the curve between the church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the closed side street of Via Cervia. The minor, who never lost consciousness, was helped by the 118 personnel who intervened on the scene with an ambulance and the helicopter landing nearby which transported him to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena. The surveys are carried out by the local police personnel of the Union of Romagna Faentina.
