ASCOLI – The first half hour of parking will be free, while the first hour, in fact, will cost only 50 cents, on all the blue stalls intended for Saba on Corso Trento and Trieste and in Piazza Santa Maria intervineas, with the reopening to traffic, after the installation of parking meters and signs. A surprise that comes on the basis of a provision defined already in March 2023, on the initiative of Mayor Marco Fioravanti, and in force in an experimental form until June 30, unless extended. Awaiting the car park redemption expected by the city council at the beginning of 2025.

Aid for trade

The choice, made at the time precisely to help motorists and, indirectly, also to shopkeepers in the centre, was born first and foremost to immediately unblock the situation which had become complex (due to the numerous construction sites) on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. And in that area, free parking on the blue stalls for the first 30 minutes had already been activated on 11 April a year ago and is still active. But, in reality, that provision, in its entirety, included the extension of the first half hour free also on the blue stalls to be activated on Corso Trieste and Piazza Santa Maria intervineas once the redevelopment of the important downtown artery that the the current municipal administration wanted to complete it by accepting the challenge and financing the work, for the first time after 40 years of waiting, through a specific mortgage.

Half an hour free

Now, therefore, once the signs have been fixed, the planned free parking for the first half hour will also come into force. Thanks to the agreement reached at the time by Fioravanti with Saba, now also in the parking meters that will be installed on Corso Trento and Trieste (for a total of 20 spaces) and on Piazza Santa Maria intervineas (7 spaces, mixed and therefore usable also by residents) it will be necessary to provide the possibility of collecting a free ticket for the first 30 minutes of parking or, in any case, the use of the parking disc must be allowed. And in fact, again on those blue stalls, anyone who wants to park for an hour will find themselves paying only 50 cents instead of one euro as per the hourly rate foreseen for the first two hours. Seeing themselves, therefore, serving the first half hour. Motorists, therefore, once the new blue spaces on Corso Trieste and Piazza Santa Maria Intervineas are operational, like what has already been provided for in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, will be able to park for free for 30 minutes in each of the three identified areas. And, in any case, anyone who inserts money into the parking meter to stay longer will have the amount deducted by 50 cents for the first 30 minutes. A further piece, therefore, that Arengo had wanted to insert after the reduction of the hourly rate in all car parks to one euro for the first two hours, obtained following the negotiation between the mayor and Saba. The effect of this free stop for the first half hour should be useful to all those who have to go to the center for short stops, for example for shopping or errands, or in any case further reduce the cost of the first hour which has already been adjusted to one euro.

The scenery

The measure is activated on an experimental basis until June 30th. To then raise the curtain on the procedure for the redemption of parking spaces from Saba by Arengo. In the meantime, with the activation of the new electronic gate in Piazza Roma, from 8.30pm each evening until 7.30am the following morning, only residents are allowed to transit and park along Corso Trieste. With evening checks by the local police to combat illegal parking.
