Ferrante resigns: «Too much fuss» – Teramo

GIULIANOVA. Valentino Fabrizio Ferrante he resigned yesterday from the position of president of the port authority. He announced it with a letter signed by him: «I submit my mandate to the shareholders’ meeting, to whom I express my gratitude for the trust placed in me in these three years and for the demonstrations of closeness they have expressed to me in recent days». In recent weeks, Ferrante has been at the center of harsh controversy from the centre-left oppositions, in particular Citizen Government and Sustainable Evolution, following his alleged incompatibility by virtue of the ruling issued on 26 May 2021, with which the Court of Cassation made his conviction for bankruptcy fraud irrevocable.
It is no coincidence that the resignation arrived a few hours after the city council meeting yesterday afternoon, in which the opposition group of the governing Citizen had presented an agenda on the Ferrante case. And the now looming administrative vote also had its weight. «Despite two legal opinions that support me regarding my position with respect to the position held», we read in the note signed by the now former president of the port authority, «I believe that the clamor raised in the last twenty days on the subject, the frenetic reactions which I witnessed and the political exploitation that could continue in the coming weeks, are not useful either to the serene management of the port authority or to the serenity of the electoral climate, which will see our city involved in just over six weeks”.
During yesterday’s city council meeting, the governing Citizen’s councilor Alberta Ortolani stated: «It is quite striking that the sentence dates back to such a distant date, and that the mayor did not feel the need to announce it and adopt the measures envisaged in these cases». In the opinion of Ortolani, the mayor Jwan Costantini he would have implemented an occupation of power through men he trusted (Ferrante is also a member of the management of the Verso list, close to the mayor). The mayor replied as follows: «The Municipality of Giulianova is a minority shareholder of the port authority, it holds 14% of the shares; Ferrante was appointed when he still did not have a final conviction, especially for crimes not borne by the public administration; I learned of the president’s conviction through the press. Even the mayor of Teramo agreed, at the time, with the appointment of Ferrante, which shows that I did not make any attempt to occupy power.”
