ATRI. The whole town was there yesterday morning to bid farewell to Gabriele Traini, the 43-year-old from Santa Margherita di Atri who died on Sunday morning due to an illness during a cycling excursion. The community, the managers and colleagues of the Coldivari company where he worked as a worker and many members of the amateur sports association “Salite & Abbracci” expressed their grief to his family: his wife Lusiana, his children Gaia and Giovanni and his parents Giovanni and Elda . Among the crowd there were many of his friends and many athletes. Gabriele, in fact, and had also played in the Fontanelle football team.
The parish priest Don Alexis Urpin in the homily he spoke of Traini as a reserved person but with a great heart and sensitivity. From the altar, at the end of the celebration, the nuns, catechists and friends of the catechism read a message addressed to the 43-year-old’s daughter. «Dearest Gaia and family, the angels welcomed dad into heaven from the highest peaks that he loved to climb with his bike and now he is even closer to you, night and day and in every moment of your life, to protect you and guide you from those peaks that he loved so much and from where he will watch over us forever. Our love for you flows from the depths of our hearts and has its roots in the most intimate prayer.” Condolence was also expressed by the former councilor Alfonso Di Basilico. «Gabriele was an all-round sportsman but above all he was a very affectionate father and a loving husband», he highlighted, «family came first for him, we will miss him». At the end of the religious celebration, the body was buried in the nearby cemetery of the hamlet.
