Florence: Eros that moves the world

“Eros…that moves the world” is the title of the new artistic exhibition of the group “Workshop of the myth”which will be hosted in the prestigious exhibition rooms of the Society of Fine Arts-Circolo degli Artisti “Casa di Dante” in Florence.

A new theme addressed in this edition, captivating and multi-faceted: Eros.

The current enormous overexposure of nude images, the insistent and cunning use of undressed bodies in the media, in advertising, as on the web, not only leave us with images that have very little to tell, as they are completely devoid of a soul; but above all they authorize a commodification of bodies and a wild neo-liberalism that limits and circumscribes the concept of Eros to the purely corporeal dimension of the sexes.

At the dawn of human history, however, Eros was considered a primordial force, born from the primordial cháos (Χάος), and then became, according to a later mythology, the son of Aphrodite and Ares. And it is precisely in this guise that perhaps we know him best: portrayed countless times in European art, Eros or Cupid, takes on the appearance of a beautiful ephebe or a winged child who enjoys shooting his arrows, throwing men into passions more uncontrollable.

An artistic event that therefore reveals an Eros with many faces, an Eros that flows on the many levels of our lives, an Eros that blows on the many faces of existence. Therefore not an underestimation of the erotic drive in the meeting of souls and bodies, but its placement in an all-encompassing dimension, as a vital impulse with many facets.
For the artists Of “Workshop of the myth” Rosa Cianciulli, Guido Del Fungo, Enrico Guerrini, Nicoletta Manetti, Giovanni Mazzi, Salvatore Monaco, Roberto Mosi, Margherita Oggiana, Andrea Ortuño, Roberto Romoli, Andrea Simoncini, Umberto Zanarelli, Pareskevì Zerva, that is, the erotic stimulus becomes an emotional exercise with which we stimulate our senses, in recognizing what in mediocrity is the sublime, what in mechanics is energy; what in life is that indispensable courage to explore the psychic and emotional dimensions. In fact, Byung-Chul Han writes referring to Plato: “from Eros comes a spiritual impulse; the erotically stimulated soul carries out beautiful things and above all good actions that have a universal value.”
Various literary and musical events will also be organized during the exhibition period. All information regarding dates and times are reported on the poster.
