Gela, services for autistic people. Volunteers meet the health director

The board of the Gelautism association was received this morning by the medical director of «Vittorio Emanuele», Alfonso Cirrone Cipolla, on the need to establish a dedicated path for access to the emergency room for autistic subjects.
The health manager, sensitive to the issue, has taken action to work together with the association to meet the ASP leaders and define an ad hoc regulation.
In the meeting, given the availability of the interlocutor, the topic of autism in the area and dedicated services were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the difficult condition faced by the Gela autism center. The failure to renew numerous employment contracts for operators causes daily inconvenience to the users in their care due to the continuous suspensions of rehabilitation treatments.
A condition that has certainly worsened since last April 5, when the service agreed by the ASP to local cooperatives and aimed at 45 autistic subjects aged 6 and over was suspended pending completion of the process for the new tender.
«We hope – they explain – that this process can be completed and the service can begin within a few days. We are satisfied with today’s meeting which will create a path in symbiosis with the Gela hospital and the ASP management and will highlight the urgent needs of autistic people in the area for greater inclusion and dignity of the most fragile. We thank director Cirrone Cipolla for the welcome he gave us and the efficiency with which he took action to follow up on these important civil achievements in favor of local disabilities.”
