New houses for the geese of the Walls of Treviso

There are 17 birds that live on the Peninsula of Paradise, close to the Walls

They will be able to lay their eggs and hatch them in complete tranquility away from predators. The Municipality of Treviso has installed the new houses for nesting and protecting geese who live in the Peninsula of Paradisea strip of land located in the moat of the Walls of Treviso.

The five wooden beds, which can accommodate up to two nests each, are one meter wide, 60 centimeters high and 60 centimeters deep. In this way the web-footed broods they will be protected by the corvids present in the areawhich feed on the eggs.

“The houses were positioned thanks to the Pet Affairs Office and the specific animal protection unit of the local police – explains the deputy mayor Alessandro Manera, which has responsibility for the Environment – With this new installation we want to protect the animals that live on the Paradise Peninsula and are part of our city context to all intents and purposes to ensure that their eggs are not attacked, especially by gray crows and magpies.” “With the restoration and enhancement works on the Walls, these places will also be accessible to citizens”underlines the mayor Mario Conte.

The geese of the Paradise Peninsula there are 17, mainly of the Romagna breed, of which 4 were born in 2023. The hatching period runs from early March to June. The eggs usually laid are from 12 to 20 units. The incubation time is 30 days.
