Synlab, hacker attack on the diagnostic center being resolved: what happened

Synlabthe diagnostic center present with its offices in nine regions of Italy, has undergone a hacker attack on your computer systems which put the security of sensitive data collected by the company for medical purposes. Corrado Giustozzi, cybersecurity expert, explained: “Healthcare is a perfect target, blocking services can cost human lives.” On the morning of April 19, the company published a notice on its website and on social media apologizing to its customers for the discomfort that began on April 18thwhen the official website started to have some technical problems, not allowing users to book tests and download the reports of tests already carried out.

The new note reads: «Synlab informs all patients and customers that it has suffered a hacker attack on its IT systems throughout the national territory. As a precaution, as soon as the attack was identified and in accordance with company IT security procedures, all company IT systems in Italy were immediately deactivated. We inform our kind users that services in the SYNLAB Medical Centers are gradually recovering”. Then it is reported a list, region by region, with all the latest news. In the morning, however, a message appeared on the company’s Facebook account, announcing the hacker attack.

Below the post published on Facebook there are hundreds of messages from patients worried about scheduled tests, to which the company responds that – given that these are sensitive topics – it is contacting all interested parties. “We will try to respond privately to every single request,” we read on Facebook.
