The tax on waste is increasing, bartenders and restaurateurs are on a “war” footing against the Municipality

PADUA – Bartenders and restaurateurs go on the attack: «In four years the Tari has increased by over 13%. We are talking about 3.18 euros more per square meter for restaurants and 2.26 euros more per square meter for bars – argued Federica Luni, president of Appe Padova yesterday -. In practice this year, restaurants will pay 26.33 euros per square meter and bars 18.71 euros per square meter: very important figures to which we want equally important services to correspond.”

«In Padua – added Luni – we merchants pay more, sometimes much more, than the other municipalities in the province and we legitimately ask to have a service adequate for the amount invested. As production activities we know that we have a relatively small impact on the volume of undifferentiated waste: we produce a lot of glass which is recyclable, paper which is also recyclable and wet which can be disposed of with zero impact on the environment. While plastic, having few large packages, is comparable to that produced by a family.”

THE PROBLEM
The association of bartenders and restaurateurs, however, points the finger at the many single portions that crowd the aisles of shops and supermarkets. «How many times – continued Luni – do we see a single food product, for example a sandwich, packaged in plastic, then closed in a bag and finally sold in a bag? The same sandwich, taken at the bar, is sold with a paper napkin and enclosed in a bag of the same material: with certainly a much lower impact on the environment”.
While waiting for the revision of the tariff, which the Etra company has already started this year for several municipalities in the province of Padua (while the capital makes use of the services of AcegasApsAmga), Appe reminds that it is always possible to check whether the amounts charged are correct. «For some years now – concluded the president – we have been offering our members the service of verifying the correctness of invoicing free of charge».

POLITICS
Fratelli d’Italia group leader Matteo Cavatton also attacked. «The total cost of the Economic and Financial Plan has reached almost 51 million euros. With an increase of over one million euros per year from 2016 to today – the Melonian exponent stated – and this, despite the efforts required of citizens and businesses, forced to adopt a strong separate waste collection at their own expense, i.e. with the door-to-door method which places most of the work and related costs on the user.”
«The “limited” increase behind which the Giordani administration is hiding adds to the explosion in the cost of the service, passively accepted by the council in the last seven years – said the former Councilor for the Environment of the Bitonci council – Yet they have been saying for years that the increase in door-to-door services would have entailed, in addition to improving the service, also a reduction in overall costs, due to the economic support from which the Municipality would have benefited due to “virtuous” policies.

THE ATTACK
«Once again, we note that there is a municipal administration that is weak with the strong and strong with the weak – the leader of the League Eleonora Mosco added – an administration that still gives the people of Padua a slap in the face with yet another tax increase. After increasing the additional income tax and the waste tax in recent years, you are now reviewing the Tari upwards again.”
FdI councilor Enrico Turrin is also on the same wavelength. «After Imu, Irpef, Tourist Tax, museums, public transport, parking, now the Tari again – concluded Turrin -, while millions of euros are wasted on failed or useless public works, further disbursements are being asked of taxpayers».
