Serie A2 – Between Cividale and Vigevano: Leonardo Battistini tells his story

Serie A2 – Leo Battistini speaks: reflections on his impact with the Vigevano square and now the comparison with the former team Cividale

From one gialloblù to another. Leonardo Battistini, born in 1995, spoke to our newspaper in view of Sunday’s race with Cividale. A challenge more than just basketball for the large Mantua wing. Vigevano-Cividale for Leo is a crossroads of destinies.

Last summer he said goodbye to the Friulian team precisely to join the newly promoted Lomellina team. The same team that Battistini joined, ironically, two seasons ago (also making an important contribution) he had closed the doors of promotion. Now wait for them Eagles as an opponent, perhaps more than all the others on the Lomellino roster.

The power forward Leonardo Battistini, one of the few Vigevano experts in the category, gave an interview to The point. During the conversation at 360°the former athlete Forlì, Mantua, Farmhouse and exactly Cividale expressed gratitude to the entire group. Furthermore, he then made some observations in view of Sunday’s match with his former team, also in the playoffs mathematically:

Leonardo, how do you rate your season in a club as an absolute outsider like Vigevano?

Very positive. A very beautiful experience, despite many difficulties. The team had to deal with settling into the new category. However, the fact that they reached the playoffs a day early is proof of a group that has matured a lot. All the rookies in the category, including the Americans in their first year in Italy, overcame the impact very well“.

Former Cividale Battistini will play the final match of the Serie A2 phase against their former team on Sunday: what effect does playing against them have on you?

It’s definitely a great emotion. I spent three years in Cividale and met many good people. I’ll see some of them again on Sunday, as well as several former teammates. They are certainly in a perfect moment to say the least (9 wins out of 9 in the clock phase, ed.) and will want to honor the match. However, we too want to do the same, especially in front of a crowd that is expected to be large for the final match of the season before the playoffs“.

Speaking of the public, two years ago you came to Vigevano as an opponent and played “in Carducci’s hell”. Do you feel the difference now?

Well, Carducci was all more intimate and fiery. By the way, we came two years ago in June and it was terribly hot. Good memories, where I had the chance to admire a fan base like few others there are. The transition to the new structure was a bit traumatic for the romantic fans, however little by little a similar atmosphere was created. After all, this year wherever we went there was always a large group of fans following us. This is no small feat!“.

You went from one of the most experienced coaches in the category (Pillastrini, ed.) to a younger one but already with important successes like Pansa. What differences do you notice in them?

Few. They are both coaches who always want to win. Furthermore, they are very human and care about having a good relationship with the player. They take care of the details and expect everyone to do their part“.

Fundamental human being to best insert the youth players. How are the Unders doing?

They are super guys! In the various moments of difficulty we had, they made themselves available, particularly in training. Even though they are almost always on the bench, their contribution seems trivial but it isn’t) it is important. In particular, the two Vigevanesi boys (Bettanti Oggioni, ed.) feel very important where they are and compared to the boys who train in the youth team they feel very privileged to be able to be part of our group“.

A particular mark that Vigevano left on you this year?

The public’s attachment as I had seen a few times. Also, a sense of team in the locker room that I’ve never had in my life. I’ve already had several experiences, but this year I felt a greater sense of brotherhood with my teammates“.
