Enthusiasm skyrocketed at Franchi after Fiorentina’s victory in extra time against Viktoria Plzen. A success celebrated by the Viola coach Vincenzo Italiano with a kiss to the journalist Vanessa Leonardi. It is not known the nature of this outpouring, which to some seemed decidedly too extreme despite the denials, but we know with certainty that it is not the first time that such a scene has occurred on a football pitch. Indeed, it had already happened with Vanessa Leonardi.
Italian-Leonardi, Malesani’s precedent
It’s 2009, Siena wins a match at the last minute and the then Juventus coach Alberto Malesani kisses and hugs the Sky Sport sideline player, wife of commentator Maurizio Compagnoni. The technician was then asked if he would have done the same thing with a male reporter, but he responded in a controversial way, with a joke judged by everyone to be in poor taste: “No, I’m normal, even if the opposite is fashionable now.”
Also in 2009 another Viola coach, Cesare Prandelli, kissed a sideline after a Fiorentina victory (in the Champions League against Liverpool, ed.). In that case she was the “lucky one”. Alessia Tarquinio and, even in that case, there was a denial: just a caress and nothing more.
