VITTORIO VENETO – «If we manage to win the tender for the multi-year management of the Da Ponte theatre, we would like to create the European center of commedia dell’arte in Vittorio Veneto, involving the Venetian actor Carlo Boso, the greatest teacher of commedia dell’arte, who today he has his school in France.” Edoardo Fainello, director of the Da Ponte Theater Academydoes not hide the ambitious projects that his school has in store for the next few months, such as the Da Ponte Theater Centre, connected to the Academy, which will continue to manage, this time participating in a multi-year tender, the Serravalle structure which from beginning of the year it is municipal property.

This morning, Friday, the mayor Antonio Miatto wanted to retrace, right inside the Da Ponte, the steps that led the municipal administration to acquire the theater that belonged to the Cassamarca foundation as part of the municipal heritage. The acquisition closed for 2,450,000 euros, of which 1.5 million covered by a mortgage whose interest rate was eliminated. «It will cost us less to repay the loan than having to pay the rent that the foundation had asked us for – said Miatto -. Today I am happy to have carried out this operation to acquire the theatre.”

The theatre, it was then explained, will be able to have multi-year management. The European tender will be published at the end of May. «With an annual rental contract – noted Fainello of the Academy which temporarily manages the theater – it was not possible to organize a program and also bring in important names. A management of at least five years is essential for wide-ranging planning. If we were to win the tender, the Academy and the theater would become an international structure with the possibility of transforming it into a permanent theatre.” The Da Ponte Theater Center has recently had the opportunity to access the Single Entertainment Fund of the Ministry of Culture, in order to obtain contributions. «Among the projects – said Fainello – is to bring schools from all over the province to Da Ponte for entertainment lessons». The theater academy currently has 350 students who come from all over Italy and is based in the former Dante college, also in Serravalle, a structure which – declared Fainello – “will soon be ours because it will be donated to us by the curia”.

Also present this morning Gian Paolo Gobbo, vice president of the Cassamarca foundation: «The theater now resumes its functionality in the ownership of the Vittoria people and I believe it is a source of pride for the whole city. The expected rent of around 400 thousand euros per year would have inevitably led to the closure of the theatre.”

«I am grateful and proud to be part of a municipal administration that has had great courage: investing in culture, the driving force for our city. I hope – said thecouncilor Antonella Uliana – that the Academy can continue this important work.”

On the sidelines of the press conference the minorities – the councilors Giulio De Antoni (civic Dus), Marco Dus (Pd) and Alessandro De Bastiani (Civic Rebirth) – reiterated their position: «We are in favor of the fact that the theater belongs to the municipality, but the way in which the price was established, the price and other aspects, such as having required the notary to sign the contract, are still an open wound. The people of Vittoria understood that there were two appraisals, with very different values. Now the hope is that the theater will be managed well.”
