On Monday 22 April 2024 at 10.30 am in the Yellow Space of the Foggia Prison, Professor Floriana Conte will donate the mini “Ciaia Library” to the Lavori in Corso association, made available by Laterza on the occasion of the “Giambattista Gifuni” Award. The volumes will implement the supply of books intended for boys and girls who visit their parent detained in the Foggia prison which hosts the Yellow Space. It is a physical and relational place managed by Lavori in Corso thanks to the presence of specialized operators, capable of intercepting the needs of minors, welcoming them in a space dedicated to them with psycho-pedagogical activities, preparing them for the meeting with the parent.

“We thank Professor Conte for this gift which is truly worth a lot because we strongly believe in reading as a powerful tool for processing experiences for children and for the entire family unit. Books represent an innovative legality tool for the benefit of the entire community”, says the president of Lavori in Corso Umberto Di Gioia.

Professor Floriana Conte, professor of History of modern and contemporary art and Museology of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Foggia, received the XXII Giambattista Gifuni Award by virtue of her academic commitment and dedication to the diffusion of culture. The awards ceremony took place last March 8 in the Library of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome in the presence of the scientific committee, led by the president Giovanni Battista Gifuni (former Librarian of the Chamber of Deputies as well as essayist and professional in the cinematographic field), and given the participation of illustrious personalities from the cultural world (including Paolo Massa, director of the Library of the Chamber of Deputies; Cinzia Greco, president of the Fondazione Nuove Proposte Culturali; Fabrizio Gifuni, famous actor, director and writer; the laudatio of the award winner was entrusted to Enrico Vanzina, equally famous director, writer and producer).

The Award, named after the great librarian of Lucera who was an interlocutor and friend of the major intellectuals of the twentieth century (Ungaretti, Bacchelli, Bartoccini etc.), aims to recognize and honor leading figures of Italian and foreign culture who have contributed to underlining the importance of books and reading in contemporary society. The event, promoted and organized by the Nuove Proposte Culturali Foundation, represented a unique opportunity to celebrate the importance of culture and reading. President Gifuni and President Greco will be present at next Monday’s ceremony in Foggia together with Professor Conte.
