130 poles and 30 shelters for municipal bus stops have been positioned in the municipal area. This is not reported by the municipal administration, but by Linda Licari, provincial leader of the Democratic Party, who issued a joint note together with Antonino Angi (Marsala Coraggiosa). The former councilor underlines that this is a project of the Di Girolamo Council, “which had begun to place the first poles already with the arrival of the first Euro 6 buses purchased, including the electric bus which served as a free urban circular route. Someone – underlines Linda Licari – complained about the fact that the circular always ran empty, but since it was abolished by the new administration, several citizens have highlighted its usefulness and feel the need for it. It’s true that we are reluctant to change, we don’t easily accept a pedestrian area closed to car traffic which we normally park in double or triple rows. But it is also true that educating towards a sustainable city, designed with large car parks outside the centre, such as that of the stadium, with new shelters where you can wait and with digital poles connected to the GPS of the buses which indicate the arrival time , it is a duty of the municipal administration which must take on the courage to make choices. Citizens must be educated with the proposals and with a clear vision of the city that is in line with European directives and in step with the most beautiful cities in Italy where, for years, electric buses have existed and the historic center is closed to traffic vehicular. Nearby Palermo is a virtuous example of this.”

“The citizens of the Marsala suburbs – continues the note – have long complained about the serious lack of public transport services in the various districts. This situation, in addition to creating enormous inconvenience for those who travel daily for work, study or personal reasons, represents a concrete obstacle to sustainable mobility and the ecological transition. The absence of an efficient public transport service forces suburban residents to rely on private cars, with all the resulting negative consequences in terms of air pollution, traffic and urban congestion, not to mention expensive petrol. A situation that worsens with the inefficiency of the Fast Scrolling, still left with the traffic light in the Ss Filippo and Giacomo tunnel. It was supposed to be a temporary solution. All this highlights the lack of a real green vision on the part of the municipal administration denounced by various groups and political movements. Forever! Bitter reflection given that we are approaching April 22nd when World Earth Day is celebrated all over the world, with initiatives and good practices for administrators to put on the agenda. Evidently this administration has completely erased the day from the calendar. In a green city, in Italy and in the rest of Europe, steps are taken to increase the number of public transport trips, especially in a local city like ours, by extending the hours of service of the drivers and hiring new ones, introducing tariffs facilitated by investing in the improvement of existing car parks. The one in via Giulio Anca Omodei doesn’t even have a functioning payment column and is often unsafe. There is a lack of concrete commitment to the care and improvement of services and therefore the quality of life of resident citizens and tourists. The idea of sustainable mobility which is fundamental for a more livable city and on a scale for people, families and children is missing. We also don’t understand why the Mayor waited four hours to place poles and shelters. How many other surprises will come out of the hat among the old projects already financed? Certainly many others in view of the next electoral competitions. “.
